Why do AI companies need finance experts?
Many finance professionals and businesses already use AI in their work, for example to read annual reports, build models or answer client questions. AI still makes mistakes an experienced professional spots in seconds, such as a wrong accounting treatment, a broken link between the three statements or an unrealistic assumption. AI companies pay people who do this work every day to find and fix those mistakes.
Which areas of finance do platforms hire for?
AI companies want better answers in every area of finance, so platforms hire across all of them.
| Your area | What you'd work on | Typical rate (Oct 2026) |

| Accounting, audit and tax | Accounting treatments under IFRS and US GAAP, audit procedures, tax questions | $60-$140/h |
| Investment | Valuation, financial models, deal analysis, investment memos | $80-$250/h |
| Corporate finance and FP&A | Forecasts, budgets, variance analysis, business cases | $50-$150/h |
| Economics and other finance roles | Economics, quant and trading, insurance, personal finance | $60-$250/h |

What do platforms look for?
- Experience: usually at least 2 years, and often 5 years or more for senior roles.
- Background: a degree in finance, accounting or economics, and work experience in your field. Experience at a large firm (Big Four, bulge-bracket bank, top private equity fund) helps for the best-paid roles.
- Qualifications that help: CPA, ACCA, ACA, CA, CIMA, CFA or your country's equivalent, such as RA in the Netherlands, Wirtschaftsprüfer in Germany or expert-comptable in France.
- Clear written English. Speaking another language is an advantage, because fewer finance experts can do projects in other languages.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be a CPA or chartered accountant?
No, not for most roles. It helps for accounting and tax roles, and some US tax roles require a US license.
Will this look good on my CV?
Yes, increasingly. Experience with how AI handles finance work is relevant for many finance roles.
